ARB Rear Bumper Design
ARB 4x4 manufactures a great line of products geared toward the heavy duty, off-road Jeep market. They are well know in Jeep circles for their high-quality recovery accessories and suspension systems. One of their latest products is a versatile rear bumper upgrade for the 2007-2012 Jeep Wrangler JK 2 and 4 door. Not only does ARB's rear bumper upgrade add the functionality of recovery points, hi-lift jack points, tailgate support, and a plastic bearing assembly to your Jeep; but it also allows for the mounting of a spare tire up to 37 inches in diameter(modifications to the 3rd brake light may be required to fit a 37” spare tire). The wheel carrier kit is sold separately from the rear bumper. Most Jeep owners will be able to install this bumper kit in about one hour and around one and one half hours with the wheel carrier. Other features include 3mm laser cut, folded steel sheet, recessed center pan, and a superior departure angle. Additionally, the rear bumper was designed to integrate with a factory fitted or aftermarket receiver hitch that mounts to the center of the chassis rear cross member.
Recovery Points
The ARB bumper includes two 20mm steel plate pass throughs with welded to strengthening mounting bracket uprights to maximize recovery options. Each recovery point includes an elongated slot design to serve as a convenient pass though and pivoting point. Both eyelets can fit up to a 4.75t D-shackle.
Hi-Lift Jack Points
Hi-lift jack points are a must for safely raising even the highest Jeeps in an emergency. For jacking security and stability each bumper jack point is reinforced with 4mm steel plate. During normal vehicle operation the jack points may be covered with the included rubber plug.
Optional Wheel Carrier
This bumper includes laser cut knock outs for mounting the optional wheel carrier accessory(PN 5750300). If you do not want to mount a spare tire to the back of your rig, simply leave the knock out holes in place. The plastic bearing assembly utilizes a push-in interference fit and its designed to never need adjustment or servicing. The tailgate support incorporates a plastic cup assembly that gives full support to the wheel carrier while also allowing for movement between the chassis and body. The ARB “catchless” carrier eliminates the need for a separate catch assembly because the adjustable tie rod connects the carrier arm to the door, allowing the arm to move with the door as it is opened and closed. The unit is adjustable for up to 1” lifts. All and all the ARB tailgate support is a high-quality part that will easily and safely accommodate up to 37” tires.
